Urobilinogen

Urobilinogen is formed from the breakdown of bilirubin, a substance found in the liver that aids in the breakdown of red blood cells. Normal urine contains some urobilinogen.
What might a low result mean?
Little or no urobilinogen in the urine, may indicate a problem with liver function.
What might a high result mean?
High levels of urobilinogen in the urine may indicate liver disease such as hepatitis or cirrhosis.
